SOCCER - NEW Royal Leopard coach Edwin Matsebula has acknowledged that making the police side a force again will not be an easy task.
Matsebula was announced as the new Leopard coach by club President, the National Commissioner of Police (NatCom) Isaac Magagula on Saturday morning, replacing Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane who will now be Technical Director. Ntibane led Leopard to three consecutive MTN Premier League titles from the 2013/14 season to the 2015/16 campaign as well as multiple cup triumphs.
However, Leopard faded as a force in the past two seasons and it is now up to new head coach Matsebula to revive the fortunes of the police side.
“I am thankful and at the same time worried about the task that lies ahead because this is a big club and a big job. I would like to thank the leaders of the club for seeing it fit to give me this huge responsibility. This is a huge organisation and for them to pick me is a huge honour. I thank them for their trust,” Matsebula said in an interview yesterday.
The coach, who helped Vovovo gain promotion to the Premier League last year, added that only teamwork amongst the club would help Leopard challenge for top honours yet again.
“It won’t be easy (taking Leopard back to the top).
But if we work together, we can achieve a lot. I also hope that I’ll be able to bring positive input and help the club become successful,” Matsebula concluded.
