HEARTFELT FATHER-SON MOMENTS AT SIFUNDZANI

By Nokwanda Sibandze | 2018-06-18

AS father’s day was just yesterday, Sifundzani celebrated father and son relationships in a sundry way.

The event was held at Sifundzani High School on Saturday, where fathers came in their numbers with their sons to commemorate the relationship that they share. Themed ‘my father my hero’ the event was well organised and the speakers delivered as expected. One of the speakers who touched on fathers having a healthy relationship with their sons was Celeste Jacobs. She spoke about the importance of how fathers should treat their significant others.

She said this was how young men learn how to treat  women and fathers should ensure that they always lead by example and know that their sons are always watching.

The entertainment of the night was by Siyabonga Mabundza who rendered a poem. Mrs Johnson who is also a teacher at the school sang a song in celebration of fathers and their sons.

The main speaker, Neurologist Dr Maseko-Dlamini said for fathers to build a strong relationship with their sons they need to spend time with them even if they are not conversing and that even though conversing was important in building a strong relationship, spending time with them was more important.

The most common topic of the day was leading by example as also Dr Maseko spoke about how sons are always learning from their fathers. She said boys relate more with their fathers that is why they then practise what their fathers do.

Another speaker of the night was Pastor Kurt Platt, who shared his story about his relationship with his father. Pastor Kurt said as sons they need to learn not to repeat their father’s mistakes.

importantly, children understand the difference between bad and good so that they are able to only copy good behaviour from their fathers.

He also encouraged the children to obey their fathers regardless of how they treat them as it is important and right before the eyes of God. After the speakers, the attendees had an opportunity to ask questions to the speakers and also their fathers.

The Chairperson of Sifundzani Edwin Mbingo said he was delighted that fathers took the time to come not only with their sons but to engage in such an event.

He also thanked them for contributing towards raising funds for the school.  Mbingo also said that next year the school would host a mothers and daughter event to help the whole family build relationships with each other. Mbingo also extended his greatest appreciation to Inhonhla for sponsoring the event.
