RODNEY LANDSBERGY IS MR ESWATINI 2018/19

By Nomfundo Sifundza | 2018-06-18

ESWATINI, this is your male beauty ambassador with brains.

A confident, handsome, ambitious and determined Rodney Landsbergy was crowned Mr Eswatini 2018/19 at The George Hotel on Saturday evening.

The 23-year-old was not so much of a crowd favourite at first but when he made it to the top five and provided a convincing answer to the question posed to him by the judges, Landsbergy was destined for something good.

Something great came out of his confidence and he triumphed over all his 11 counterparts.

“It’s shocking, it’s overwhelming but actually it gets your mind thinking of what’s next rather than to think of the title,” he said.  The event was filled with nothing else but deafening screams from female members of the audience.

Standing out with the largest number of supporters was Wandile ‘Mr Wax’ Zishwili, whose presence was felt each time he ascended to the stage.

The programme directors; SBIS‘s Bongani ‘Bobo’ Dlamini and Miss Fresher’s Kwaluseni Bongiwe Vilakati, also did the most as they kept the audience entertained. Bongiwe would now and again show off her dancing skills. The beauty stunned many when she was supposed to acknowledge the attendance of some of the country’s beauty queens, she started off by saying; “I had forgotten to acknowledge the presence of some of the queens as here tonight, all I know is that I’m Miss Freshers Kwaluseni, and that’s all that matters.”

The night sailed on smoothly with brief speeches from the sponsors IRDM and the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture CEO Stanley Dlamini.  The contestants paraded in casual wear and designer wear.

The eventual king Rodney Landsbergy made a statement in a barefooted look, fused with an African print shirt, a hat and a lihiya wrapped up as a load. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management degree, the king said there were a number of projects coming his way as the responsibility has been laid to him by winning this title. Landsbergy said he had been preparing for this pageant all his life.

this he revealed as he dropped names of the country’s former male beauty ambassadors; the likes of Okwakhe Dlamini, Linda Dlamini and Bonelelwe Makhanya. “I have been looking up to them; I always wanted to be like Okwakhe. I am now in the correct position to go consult with them how they wanted the standard to be set if not just take off from where they left and improve it for the next king,” he said.
