BASKETBALL LEAGUE MAKES WAY FOR BUSHFIRE

By Sibusiso Dlamini | 2018-05-26

SPORTS – The Swaziland National Basketball League (SNBL) weekend’s games have been put on ice to allow the basketball fraternity to give undivided support to the Bushfire festival.

This was announced by the league’s association secretary Mandla Shongwe yesterday.

Shongwe made it known that they are looking to support the Bushfre Festival.

“We would like to announce to all teams and relevant stakeholders that we will be postponing all games this weekend due to the fact that we want all the teams to support our sponsor MTN. The sponsor is hosting an event – one of the biggest events in the world for that matter, so we can only just support them. It wouldn’t make sense for us to host games yet our attention will be divided, so we came to a decision to fully support the sponsor and then continue with the games.” he said.  Meanwhile, Shongwe also added that the games would be played in succession for the next month to cover for lost time.

“The next coming four weeks will be hectic in basketball as we will be looking to cover the lost time. We won’t have a break for the next four weeks, so all teams should be ready because the games will be coming in thick and fast,” he said.

On the other hand, the Swaziland National Cricket league (SCA) is also on a break as Muslims are currently on Ramadan (fasting season) and since the sport is dominated by Muslims, the association has seen it fit to take a break from the games for the health of their players.
