SOCCER - LIVERPOOL legend Howard Gayle has implored Sihlangu players never to play with fear in order to succeed.
Addressing the players during their farewell function held at NFAS Technical Centre at Lobamba yesterday Gayle, who is the first African to play for the English Premiership side, said it was important for the players to work together as a team as this would ensure they achieve great results.
“As a former player, I have travelled this path and my advice to you would be that a footballer who plays with fear will never be good.
A player needs to believe in himself, listen to the coach as they have expertise needed inside the field of play. “Also you also need to believe and have faith together as a team. By doing that you can beat anyone who comes your way,” he said.
Players
The former player, who is currently in the country courtesy of the Bible Society of Swaziland, further challenged each of the players to work hard and become the first from Eswatini to play in the EPL.
“As Africans we are gifted when it comes to the game. The great Pele said in the 90s that ‘once an African nation wins the World Cup, the rest of the world will never get it’ and I believe he was telling the truth.
“Nothing is impossible in football and players should believe in themselves. I wish Sihlangu all the best as they go to Kenya and will make sure to check the results when I get home,’ he said.
The players were also not left out of the initiative by the Bible Society as they were presented with Bibles and urged to make good use of the Holy Book.
