EX- SPTC MD FEELS SOME ACC OFFICERS HAVE A VENDETTA AGAINST HIM

By Sandile Nkambule | 2018-04-24

Before his arrest, former Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications  Corporation (SPTC) Nathi Dlamini raised concerns with the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on its investigations.

Dlamini who is on trial for corruption related charges felt the investigations had ulterior motives and vendetta as one of the ACC officers was a former employee of SPTC.

According to ACC Chief Investigator Sipho Mthethwa during the corruption trial involving the former MD, Dlamini allegedly said Tebogo Fruiwith was once employed by the corporation which to him raised a conflict of interest and was not content with the investigations.

However, the ACC wrote to Dlamini and informed him that his concerns were justified, but the investigations had nothing to do with any vendetta of whatsoever against him.

In fact, the former MD stated in a correspondence that Tebongo knew the issues concerning the formation of Horizon Mobile hence she was conflicted in the investigations.

To date Mthethwa said the documents that were required by the ACC were not provided by the former MD hence the present case before court. A ledger book which was given to the arresting ACC officers at Phutfumani building, was rejected when Dlamini offered it.

According to Mthethwa, they declined to take the ledger since Dlamini had  already beed charged after having failed to provide the ACC with the required documents for investigations. The ledger according to Mthethwa contained minutes of the Board of Directors but the arresting team rejected it.

The former secretary general of the Swaziland Post and Telecommunication Workers Union (SPTWU) in his evidence had told the court that Horizon Mobile Limited was registered under Dlamini’s name.

The first witness in the case, unionist Mduduzi Zwane recently told the high court that according to their investigations at the Registry of Companies, Horizon Mobile was registered under Dlamini’s name and another person who was not known to them as a union.

The major shareholder according to Zwane was the former MD with 999 shares while the other person had only one share out of the 1000 shares.

The union was concerned with the formation of the mobile company since SPTC is a government owned company (parastatal) hence the formation of Horizon was not clear and the workers did not want to lose employment under a cloud of controversy.

The union was more concerned because SPTC as a category A enterprise, the Public Enterprise Unit was supposed to have knowledge of the formation of Horizon Mobile but were shocked to learn that the PEU director was not aware of same hence the matter was taken further to the ACC.
