SOCCER – Sihlangu will face Lesotho in the quarter-finals of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup.
The regional showpiece is slated for South Africa’s Limpopo provincial capital Polokwane from May 27 to June 9.
According to the draw conducted on Wednesday, the locals will face-off with their Basotho counterparts at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on June 2.
Sihlangu coach Anthony Mdluli said it was a tough draw when contacted yesterday. “This is a tough draw in that all the teams are determined to win the tournament. The national teams in these countries have improved immensely and there is no such thing as a small team,” he said. The coach said they would work hard in their preparations for the tournament in order to perform better than last year.
Sihlangu were seeded into the quarter-finals of the tournament and the seedings were based on the results attained by the countries in previous Cosafa tournaments and not FIFA as previously done. The first week of the tournament is taken up by the group competition where each national team plays three games. Worth noting is that the 18th edition of the Cosafa Cup will make history as for the first time, all 14 members of the Council will compete during the games.
