SOCCER – MBABANE Swallows’ progression to the group stages of the CAF Champions League has certainly come with good news for the National Football Association of Swaziland.
The national Football mother body stands to receive to E330 000 from the red and glamour side’s E6.6million which they will receive from the continental mother body CAF.
This is according to the new CAF policy implemented last season which enables national bodies to benefit from their clubs international prize monies.
The FA reportedly received a sum of E130 000 from CAF after Swallows reached the group stages of the 2017 Confederations Cup last year.
A source close to the matter confirmed that the FA would receive its share in the next three weeks when Swallows gets their chunk for reaching the group stages.
“The FA will soon get their share when CAF releases the prize monies to the 16 representatives, who have made it through to the group stages of the Champions League and Confederations Cup.
“The FA usually assist local clubs with travelling expenses which ranges from E50 000 to E100 000 depending on the destination of the respective teams and technical assistance comprising of soccer balls ,” the source said.
NFAS Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe said prize monies were received by teams at the end of the interclub competitions when contacted yesterday.
“It is only the participating teams that benefit financially from CAF at the end of the tournament depending on the stage they have reached. The figures are also determined by several factors including fines accumulated by the respective teams during the course of the competition which could result in the decrease of the prize money,” he said.
Swallows on Saturday knocked out Zambian side Zanaco FC out of the competition with a 3-1 aggregate as they won 1-0 in the second leg match played at Somhlolo National Stadium.
Swallows are now waiting for their group opponents to be determined during the group stages draw to be held at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo, Egypt tomorrow.
