TZD TO HOST TRAIL-RUN NEXT MONTH

By Sibongiseni Zondi | 2018-03-14

SOCCER - THE TZD Sports Club will next month host its first ever trail run at Mpaka Railway Sports ground.

The Sports club, which is based in Siteki, in the Lubombo region, was established last year by astute Sports Administrator Zakhele Dlamini. The trail run will be broken down into three categories covering both males and females, announced Dlamini yesterday.

“As a sports club we understand that we have obligations and one of our obligations is to host events. Therefore, with the full endorsement of the Athletics Association of Swaziland (AAS), we will host our very first trail run on April 7 at Mpaka Railway. We will have the 21km, 10km and 5km categories. We would like to thank Mpaka Railway for giving us the venue,” Dlamini said.

The former Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) CEO then added that the trail-run would be of great assistance to local athletes wishing to partake in the Comrades Marathon later this year. “Even though we are a small and new club, we felt that we shouldn’t wait to get sponsors first before we host an event. A trail-run is very difficult because you run on very challenging surfaces so it will also help prepare local athlete s wishing to participate in the Comrades Marathon in South Africa,” he said.

Dlamini then pleaded with local companies to support the club. “Our main intention is to provide a platform for the young athletes in schools who don’t have anywhere to compete once the competing in schools is over in and around March every year. We would like to appeal to local companies, especially those in the Lubombo region, to kindly assist us. This event will also help the people of Mpaka because most events are hosted within the Manzini- Mbabane corridor so we saw it fit to take this one to Mpaka. We want the day to be a family day,” Dlamini said.

According to Dlamini, staff from Mpaka railway will also be at the event to teach locals about railway safety. Those wishing to partake in the event can register at TZD offices in Manzini at Ella-Court Building and also at Fitness Zone. In Siteki they can register at Siteki Hotel and at Mpaka they can register at the Railway clinic. Registration can also be done at Nandos outlets in Manzini, Matsapha and Mbabane. For more information, the public can contact Dlamini on: 7604 8762.

The winners (both male and female) in the 21km race will receive E1 500 each while the winners in the 10km race will get E1 000 each. The winners in the 5km category will receive E250 each.
