IN a recommendation forwarded to Their Majesties by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), all 59 tinkhundla across the country will be renamed.
EBC Chairman Chief Gija revealed this in an interview with this publication yesterday.
This comes after the people complained to the commission that they were made to feel inferior and their sense of belonging was compromised by those that lived in areas where the inkhundla is named after.
“We got complains that some people were bragging that the inkhundla belongs to them simply because it is situated and named after their area.
Inkhundla is a royal house where the community leaders and the nation meet to discuss development projects and issues affecting the community.
Therefore, we opted to have the names of the tinkhundla changed so that nobody claims bragging rights over them. We have since forwarded a recommendation to Their Majesties and if they give a green light, His Majesty King Mswati III will take the initiative of renaming the tinkhundla using a neutral name,” he said.
The EBC is on a programme that entails visiting all the tinkhundla around the country to clarify the changes in boundaries that are caused by the addition of four tinkhundla that were recently announced.
This is outlined in the constitution that every after four years of the inception of new parliamentarians, the EBC shall review the boundaries.
Last year was the fourth year hence the addition of the four new tinkhundla that brought changes to the borders across the constituencies.
Among the changes is the separation of Motshane inkhundla from Siphocosini and Sigangeni while Mdzimba umphakatsi was inducted under Mbabane East from Nkhaba.
