LEOPARD THRASH SUNDOWNS IN INGWENYAMA CUP

By Sibusiso Masilela | 2018-01-14

Manzini Sundowns (0) 0 Royal Leopard (0)1 SOCCER- Police side Royal Leopard marched through to the semi-finals of the Ingwenyama Cup at the expense of Manzini Sundowns at the Somhlolo National Stadium yesterday. The 2015 runners up needed an elusive strike from Mathokoza Tfwala to knockout the two-time semi finalists during the tightly contested affair witnessed by over 1 000 football lovers, including the tournament’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prince Hlangabeza.

The much needed E200 000 worth goal for the Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane led side came three minutes into the second half through diminutive winger Tfwala , who blasted home a good low cross from the marauding Bonginkhosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini. The former Manchester United player’s stunner left the diving Lwethu Simelane bemused between the Sundowns goalpost. The goal was the only tonic the match needed, as the two sides failed to break each other for prolonged stages of the opening half which saw Leopard dominating proceedings. Sundowns lacked the killer instinct in the final third with talisman Melusi Mkhwanazi looking isolated due to the absence of the injured Justice Figaredo. The two coaches ‘Nuro’ Ntibane and Musa Manyatsi made changes bringing on the likes of Sabelo Shongwe and Mxolisi Lukhele during the second half.

The changes however failed bring much change for either side especially for Sundowns as they struggled to find the back of the net after being kept at bay by the stubborn opposition. The teams Sundowns Lwethu,Ndumiso,Mkhuleko, Kingu,Jerome, Paito, Linda(Sabelo), Ejike(Nkambule), Melusi, Enzo, Sandumuzi Leopard Phephisani,Muzi,Sikhumbuzo,Magagula, Phumlani,Siboniso(Mxolisi), Zweli(Bongani), Buhle, Steenkamp, Bonginkhosi, Mathokoza.
