SOCCER – RED Lions’ head coach Mlamuli ‘Sputla’ Zwane says the team’s on-going backroom squabbles are affecting the players negatively.

The well travelled mentor says albeit the fact that the players might not be vocally stating this to him, their actions show that the management struggles are getting to the players, no matter how hard they might try to be professional.

“Look, to be honest with you, my players are affected by the on-going problems in the team.

They might try their absolute best to be professional and just focus on their football, but then their actions say otherwise.

Sometimes there are spells where they just switch-off and this is not good for the team.

Out of the blue, one minute, you’re think they are coming okay, but then from nowhere, they’ll just switch-off, so you can see it is a psychological problem.

“I might not narrow all the bad performances down to that reason of course, but it certainly has an effect, and one hoped management will sort it out promptly.”  Red Lions will begin their Ingwenyama campaign with a tricky clash against MTN National First Division side Tabankhulu Callies.

Callies are currently occupying the sixth position in the NFD log standings as they have been blowing hot and cold.

On the other hand, Red Lions have had a nightmarish season thus far as they are placed second from the bottom, collecting a meagre six points out of a possible 48. The battle is set for Saturday at the Tambankulu Stadium at 1:30pm.
