‘ARREST OFFICERS IMPLICATED IN HEALTH CRISIS TODAY’

By NOKUPHILA HAJI | 2024-11-29

MEMBERS of Parliament (MPs) have called for the arrest of the officers implicated in the health crisis as early as today.

The MPs said all the evidence that was needed to arrest the implicated officers was there, further suggesting that the report should be taken to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) since it had all the needed evidence.

The MPs said this during the adoption of the report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the forensic audit report into the acquisition and distribution of medicines to public health facilities.

Mafutseni MP Sabelo Mtsetfwa said the report was well-articulated, highlighting that the ACC should, starting today, arrest the implicated officers.

He said this would prove to them that the ACC was not captured. He said it was not beneficial for them to speak and not do anything as parliamentarians.

Mtsetfwa said if the officers were not arrested, the country would face a similar situation in the coming 20 years.

He said the issue was similar to that of Ecsponent, this time targeting hospitals. “The report is complete and people should be arrested regardless of their status,” he said.

MP Chief Prince Mshengu said as long as the ground was fertile for corruption, the health crises would persist.

Hhukwini MP Alec Lushaba said people on social media were using the issue of drugs to attack the country, further revealing that they were also mentioning who benefitted from the money meant for the drugs.
