SOCCER - ALL eyes will be on Ka Langa Technical Centre this afternoon as the rivals Young Buffaloes and Royal Leopard lock horns in what promises to be a thrilling MTN Premier League encounter.
The eagerly anticipated clash headlines a doubleheader, with the curtain-raiser featuring Red Rhinos and Amawele in the MTN National First Division (NFD) League.
The stakes couldn’t be higher for both teams, with Dominic Kunene’s Young Buffaloes affectionately known as Amathole Ezinyathi, are looking to secure their second consecutive win while simultaneously halting Royal Leopards' impressive five-game unbeaten streak.
Buffaloes are currently fifth on the log with 13 points and aim to climb the standings by handing the police side their first loss of the season.
Royal Leopard, fondly called Ingwe Mabalabala sit second on the log and are eyeing the top spot, pending Mbabane Swallows' fixture tomorrow. A victory over their rivals would boost their title ambitions and maintain their momentum.
The last time these teams clashed at the same venue in this competition, the match ended in a draw. This time, both sides are determined to claim bragging rights and valuable points in what is widely considered one of the most fiercely contested fixtures in the league.
Young Buffaloes Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sandile Gwebu emphasised the importance of the match, expressing confidence in his team’s ability to deliver.
“We want to ruin the party for Royal Leopard. They remain our good friends but we’re not going to let that stop us from fighting. We need the points at all costs. A special request to our faithful fans to come through, we need you more than anything,” he said.
On the other hand, Royal Leopard CEO Frank Hurube urged his team to rise to the occasion, noting the significance of maintaining their unbeaten streak.
“A win is the only thing that will give us hope and take us to the summit of the log, which remains our main aim. We have properly prepared for them, and we know the kind of rewards that come with consistency. It’s definitely going to be a very exciting match as expected,” he said.
Buffaloes’ next challenge will be a visit to newly promoted Sidvwashini United, while Royal Leopard face defending champions Mbabane Swallows in another high-stakes encounter.
With pride, points, and log standings at stake, the clash promises fireworks. Fans can expect a pulsating encounter as two of Eswatini’s top teams battle for supremacy.
