SWIMMING - THE Eswatini Swimming Association will send team of close to 30 swimmers to represent the country in the Africa Aquatics Zone IV Swimming Championships.
The championships are scheduled for Windhoek, in Namibia and would last for a week, as they were slated to start on December 2, to December 9.
Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council Media Office Dumsani Ntiwane encouraged the swimmers to represent the country well.
“The team is expected to be led to the championships by coach Mxolisi Mpanza, who will be assisted by assistant coach, Shelly Willmott. The association has assembled what looks to be a very strong squad being dominated by Swimlab swimmers, who include Kendra McNamara, Danika Wilsch, Sihlelelwe Shongwe, Sibo Mtsetfwa, Luca Fraser, Shannon Nemes, Pedro De Sousa, Tiano Fraser Raya Young, and Tailin Barbosa to mention a few,” he said.
Ntiwane said this would be a platform for the youngsters to share their experiences with other swimmers.
“We wish the youngsters all the best, as they prepare to hoist the country’s flag in Namibia. They know what is expected of them. It is only podium finishes we are interested in and nothing less than that. We believe that they have what it takes to do us proud.”
On another note, Ntiwane said they were happy to see the Eswatini Motorcyle Association growing in leaps and in bounds over the last couple of years.
“We can safely say that the association has indeed come of age. The association hosted its award ceremony last week Saturday at the House on Fire in Malkerns.
“We always encourage our recognised National Sports Associations and recreation bodies to host their awards.
This is because we expect the winners in the different sports association to then contest for the National Sports Awards, which are hosted by the ESRC in February.”Ntiwane said they were only a few months away from the national event.“This is why we congratulate the association for ensuring that their awardees will contest in the National Sports Awards.”
