THE Malkerns Town Council has recorded profits amounting to E6.3 million in the financial year which ended in March 31 marking a E2 million increased from the E4.3 million reported from the previous year.
The town’s revenue stood at E14.4 million in 2024, which marks a slight decline from the E14.9 million recorded in the previous financial year.
Operation surplus stood at E3.9 million reflecting E300 000 growth from the E3.6 million recorded last year, this is according to town financial statements.
Malkerns Town Council non-current assets stood at E14.1 million which reflected a positive growth from the E9.6 million recorded in the previous year.
Current assets stood at E71.9 million in the period under review, while E67.5 million was recorded the previous year.
This resulted to assets totaling E86.1 million
Meanwhile in the previous year, the town had rates assessment for 323 properties and the local authority billed property taxes amounting to E14.4 million.
“The total property taxes collection performance amounted to E9 207 457 resulting in a 64 per cent collection target,” reads the town previous annual report.
The local authority continued with infrastructure upgrades over the year under review.

By that time the upgrading of D52 road had commenced, approval of the town planning scheme had been achieved, acquisition of two hectare land parcel for civic amenities, procurement processes, installation of solar streetlights along MR 27 was successfully completed.
Other programmes in public health and environment, physical planning, social services and general administration were also accomplished.
These achievements were a result of the hard work of the 2017-2022 Council, the Interim Council as well as the recently inaugurated council.
Council and the administration in ensuring efficient delivery of capital projects and services.
“The commitment of the administration remained total to achievement of the vision of the municipality,” the report states.
Furthermore the town reported that local authority managed to register a cooperative named Gwacatela Malkerns through a project sponsored by Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF).
The co-operative focused on women’s social, economic and political empowerment as well as strengthening civil society capacity for early prediction of identity-based violence.
The cooperative produced organic Bokashi compost which was available in local shops.

“Environment department had been able to execute the function of health promotion, by carrying out measures for protecting public health, including administering and enforcing legislation related to environmental health and providing support to minimise health and safety catastrophes,” reads part of the report.
The council had also managed to regulate its space using these statutes, ensured business operated accordingly.
For economic growth and protected the public health in terms of food and hygiene safety, also allowing the people of Malkerns to socially interact within their space.
