Mbabane  - DESPITE the easing of COVID-19 regulations, more people are getting vaccinated against the virus.

According to the latest vaccination statistics released by the ministry of health, over 22 000 people were fully vaccinated in July. The figures show a sharp increase compared to July and May vaccinations.

Last month, the statistics showed that over 22 240 people were fully vaccinated, which translated to 33.5 per cent of the entire population.  A total of 12 983 people were vaccinated in June, which showed a slight drop compared to the 13 639 vaccinated in May.

Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini, last month, announced a further easing of COVID-19 regulations, which included the removal of the mandatory wearing of face masks. However, border gate regulations still require people to produce their vaccination certificates or PCR negative test if unvaccinated.

The ministry of health recorded a sharp increase in people who took their doses.
The country is currently rolling out Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccine, which require two doses for one to be considered fully vaccinated.

At this rate, covidvax.live estimates show that the country might be able to vaccinate 70 per cent of the population by next February  with a two dose vaccine.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had, last year, set a 10 per cent vaccination target that all nations were supposed to have hit by September 2021.
 Eswatini was among the first 10 countries on the African continent to reach the target before the end of September.
