By Qondile Ntiwane | 2021-12-06

The Eswatini Post and Telecommunication Corporation (EPTC) has awarded an over E5.6 million contract to a South African company, Solgate for the supply of internet over fibre terminating equipment.

According to the intention to award listed on the Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA), the company was awarded the tender ahead of another SA company, Powertel Telecom, after attaining a total evaluation score of 80 per cent. It was mentioned that the company was awarded the tender in terms of Section 45 of the Public Procurement Act No.7 of 2011(the Act), following a competitive bidding process.

It must, however, be noted in terms of Section 45(2) of the Act, the above contract award decision does not constitute a contract.

Further, in terms of Section 45(4), 46 and 47 of the Act, All tenderers who submitted bids are hereby notified that a period of 10 working days is hereby allowed for submission of any application for review from the above stated date of first publication of this notice. EPTC, a body corporate, was established in April 1986 under Act No. 11 of 1983.

This Act regulates all the activities of EPTC. The EPTC is responsible to the Minister for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Princess Sikhanyiso, who in turn is answerable to government for the activities of the corporation.

The Public Enterprises - Control and Monitoring Act No. 8 of 1989 classifieds the corporation as a category A Public Enterprise, as a body wholly owned by government or in which government has a majority interest. EPTC has four business interests, namely: Eswatini Post, a business division of EPTC focusing on postal and financial services, Eswatini Telecom Limited, a subsidiary company wholly owned by EPTC, focusing on the last mile telecommunication access, products and services.

The Infrastructure Business, which is also a business division of EPTC, focuses on backbone and gateway services for licensed operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

The National Contact Centre Limited, a subsidiary company wholly owned by EPTC, focused on transforming local and international businesses through provision of business process outsourcing solutions.
