Mbabane PRIME Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini has sent a stern warning to people and organisations behind burning of schools in the country. The prime minister was speaking yesterday during a press conference held at cabinet offices.
Dlamini said there were disturbing reports that some teachers are involved in this schools’ unrest and are purportedly doing this in the name of the union. The prime minister said what is concerning is that they have not heard any contradicting report or statement from the union if these allegations are true. He stated that an investigation has been launched to verify these allegations.
Appropriate measures will be taken to discipline those involved, the prime minister assured. “The responsible ministry will have to revisit the recognition agreement. if it is found to have contradicted the agreement the union is likely to be dissolved,” he said.
The premier appealed to chiefs and school committees to assist schools to keep order and calm in order to allow children the opportunity to learn. He further stated that the COVID-19 outbreak has adversely affected the economy as it did many economies in the world. In any society there will always be those who do not see things in a positive light, those who do not like progress as pursued by others.
As a result Dlamini said these individuals prefer their progress. “Countries undergo change all the time but they do not destroy what they have in favour of what they aspire for,” he said. He cited that Emaswati are known for their mutual respect and tolerance for each other. “Peaceful settlement of disputes is our way of doing things,” he said.
Moreover, the premier said the country was on an upward recovery path before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Considerable progress had been achieved in roads infrastructure, agricultural infrastructure and the level of employment was improving although by no means satisfactory.
