PHILANTHROPIST and Donate Bread Campaign Director Illa Penboy has spent E75 000 on building houses for the disadvantaged elders of Kamkhweli and Kaphunga.
The award winning artist stated that he would have not done this alone as some of the building material, food parcels and cash were donated by members of the public through donate bread campaign.
It all started as a simple #DonateBread where he would donate a number of loaves to less privileged families.
Since inception, the campaign has been growing from just donating loaves of bread to donating other items such as groceries. From there, the campaign inspired house project as he would from time to time ask his friends and fans to donate E10 via mobile money so he could help few families with shelter.
Illa said the inspiration behind the campaign was that orphanages are important to the society as they give children the upbringing they need regardless of their background. “Whoever thought E10 from each and every one of us can bring so much change in our communities.
Hunger is a problem that often affect low-income families or orphans with zero income.
Living below the poverty line means that people cannot provide for themselves basic needs such as food, clothing and adequate shelter,” said Illa. He also revealed that they will be building another house at Dvokolwako for the Maseko family.
The ‘Donate Bread Campaign’ has received huge support from members of the public and companies. Premier Bakeries donated 200 loaves of bread, Invasion Lifestyle donated 200 loaves, Mandla ‘Cheeks’ Nxumalo and friends donated 270 loaves, to name but a few.
