DJ CUP, SLOTTA BAG SONG OF THE YEAR

DJ Cup, Slotta and Mvelo’s song ‘Happiness’ was given the radio song of the year award by the annual Eswatini Top 40 Hits of the Year charts that played on New Year’s eve and repeated last Friday.

This marks a double victory for the song, which last month was crowned the MTN SWAMA Song of the Year 2020 in the digital edition of this year’s arts flagship awards.

‘Happiness’, according to the presenters Lindelwa ‘Lindz’ Mafa and Bongani ‘Dj Tizalami’ Dube, beat over 90 other songs that made it into the weekly Top 20 charts to clinch the coveted number one spot on the annual ultimate Top 40 countdown.

The song spent about six consecutive weeks at the top of the weekly charts, and made a return to the charts with its remixes.

At number 2 was the country’s biggest collaboration song yet ‘Asibemunye’ performed by Eswatini Artists Ensemble, while Llucid MusiQ completed the Top 3 bracket with the song ‘Note to self’.

The Top 40 Hits of the Year was dominated by Eswatini songs, which were 30 in total, a feat the presenters described as encouraging as local music was now at par with international music in terms of quality. Meanwhile, the weekly Top 20 charts return this coming Friday with presenters Bongani ‘Bobo’ Dlamini and Bongani ‘DJ Tizalami’ Dube.
