YOUTUBE has become one of the most used social media platforms in the kingdom.
Even before lockdown more Emaswati were creating and starting their own YouTube channels. The number of local YouTube channels has increased during the lockdown.
This also increased the different content that locals were introduced to.
In 2020, there over 100 local YouTubers based in and out of the country. At the moment, Smallz the Comedian and Co have the most followers on their channel. With over 49 800 subscribers they sit on number one in the Kingdom.
The trio also has some of the most viewed videos on their channel. The views range from over 415 000 views to 5 000 views on different videos.
They are followed by Summer Mavuso who is currently at over 5 650 subscribers. She also has one of the most viewed videos which currently has over 94 000 views. Relatively new to the platform youtubers such as Khosi Shabalala has over 1700 subscribers to date.
LaDludlu of ‘Smash or Pass’ fame has over 1 500 subscribers. Other Youtubers include Mrs Skeel who has over 1 300 subscribers and The Ndlandlas who sit on 1 590 subscribers.
There are many other channels are slowly gaining momentum, channels with groups are also becoming a norm.
The WolfPack Choonz is one of the channels with a group of guys who tackle different topics each video. Another group that recently started a channel is The Brief, which is a group of ladies who come together to discuss numerous topics on their channel.
This also proves that local have accepted and were making the most out of the digital world.
To prove that these channels can help people earn a living or expose people to other opportunities, some of the youtubers have landed themselves deals with major with companies.
Youtubers such as Bantu Nots landed herself a partnership with KFC.
Make-up artist Khosi Shabalala was lucky to also partner with an international brand.
