NOT only did the novel coronavirus affect businesses and the economy of the country, it has also distressed legendary Mbhaqanga artist Mshikishi from promoting his 10th album.
Titled ‘ Ma Africa’, the album was supposed to be released in April. However, due to the pandemic, the album was released last month.
Speaking to the devastated artist, he said his now album was a must have for every music fanatic, as it was dedicated to everyone; both young and old.
He has featured several artists on album namely; Khole, TBK, Dominic Kunene ( Sihlangu head coach) and Nhlanhla Shongwe, to name a few.
“ COVID-19 messed up my album. Now I cannot promote it locally and internationally. I had so many plans for this album. It has different messages for everyone. It is basically about unity amongst us as Africans. There are songs about the killing of people with albinism, and the SODV Act to mention only a few,”
It is worth noting that Mshikishi has 10 albums under his belt.
In 2018, he released an album dubbed ‘ Vision 2022’ which has songs honouring the country and the King for turning 50 years that year.
This album came after Mshikishi’s very successful eighth album titled ‘Overtime’. The album contains the hit song titled ‘Monarchial Democracy’, and it was the artist’s first album to make it to the SBIS and Ligwalagwala Top 20 charts.
Mndzebele’s song, which has lyrics talking about the beauty of the country’s governing system ‘Tinkhundla’, received a lot of attention in South African radio stations. It is the same song that made Mshikishi sell over 5 000 copies for the first time.
