RELATIVES of popular actor Dan Duma wants justice to prevail following the incident that left him and his lover unrecognisable.
The pair was allegedly burnt alive by a man, who is said to be the baby daddy to Duma’s lover.
He is said to be bitter that the woman was now seeing Duma who is fighting for his life at the Mbabane Government Hospital.
Duma was made famous by the role he played in one of the radio drama series as ‘Sphampanana’, which he played along Japhter Mamba who was Majuba in the play.
Both lovers suffered severe facial and body burns, and as a result the woman was admitted to the Mbabane Government Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit due to the extent of her injuries.
A relative to Duma told this publication that when he went to the hospital he could not recognise him as his body was wrapped in bandages all over.
The shocked relative spoke of the heart breaking moment when he saw Duma’s face for the first time after the incident.
He said when he first walked into the hospital ward, he could not realise it was him, and he didn’t like it because he was badly burnt.
He said the same situation prevailed with Duma’s lover who was also left unrecognisable from her usual self.
The woman sustained serious burn wounds from the raging flames that razed down the old family house Duma was occupying at Sidwashini in Mbabane.
The relative, however, found consolation from the fact that the culprit was currently in custody.
Information gathered was that the man came to the scene in the morning while the family and neighbouring were still putting out the remains of the inferno which reduced all house belongings to ashes. The people around recognised him as he was watching the action from a distance and he was pursued, captured and ‘dealt with’ before the police came to his rescue.
The man recalled that their rescue efforts failed to save the couple after their attacker had sprinkled an inflammable liquid before setting the house alight.
The devastated family member said their desperate efforts to save the two from burning were a bit too late because the house was already engulfed by flames by the time they arrived.
He said after the culprit was spotted, angry residents gave chase, captured and severely assaulted him.
The man also sustained serious injuries, and as a result he had to be admitted at the same health facility before he was subsequently charged with two counts of attempted murder.
The relative said he was now banking his hopes on the local courts, so that the man gets a deserving punishment for his action. The arrest of the man was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, who indicated that his arraignment was expected soon.
