SOCCER- ESWATINI-born soccer legend William ' Cool Cat' Shongwe has missed out on the vacant Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeping position.
According to Kick Off, the legendary former Amakhosi player was recommended to the team by newly-appointed head coach Gavin Hunt.
Wanted
An insider told Kick Off that the former Bidvest Wits coach wanted to bring another coach onto the technical team, hence he forwarded Shongwe’s name and however, it didn't work out.
“Shongwe wanted to be part oe the new technical team at the Village but some at the club were happier for Lee Baxter to continue in the goalkeeping on the coaching role."
“If you look at the success of Gavin Hunt while William was goalkeeper coach at Supersport,. William was able to raise the likes of Rowan Williams, Sherwin Naicker, Mondli Mpoto and Keegan Poole who came through his hands," said an insider.
Shongwe could not be drawn for comment on the matter at the time of compiling the report.
Hunt was allowed to bring in former Bidvest Wits coach Dillon Shepard to assist him alongside Chiefs long-serving official Arthur Zwane.
The former Manzini Wanderers shot- stopper previously held the goalkeeper coach position at Supersport United.
