SOCCER – MBABANE Swallows left back Sanele Mkhweli and Tambankulu Callies midfielder Jabulani Mbimbili have walked away with the first monthly awards this season.

The two players were crowned MTN Premier League and National First Division players of the month of September, respectively.

For their achievement, Mkhweli received E5 000 while Mbimbili went home with E1 500. Presenting the players during an event held at Sigwaca House yesterday was PLS Chief Operations of Officer (COO) Pat Vilakati, who congratulated the players on their achievement.

“We want to congratulate these players for being the first to win these awards in the new season. By winning the September awards, they have put themselves in contention of snatching he ultimate Player of the Season award,” he said.

He also thanked MTN Swaziland for increasing the sponsorship package as well as the individual awards, which he said was good motivation to the players.

“We really appreciate these efforts by the sponsor because not only does it create competition amongst the players but also it improves our league,” he said. Also present during the event was MTN Brand and Sponsorship Manager Meshack Maseko, who said part of their objective was promoting individual brilliance amongst the local players.

“As MTN we want to come up with innovative  ways on how we can improve individual brilliance as is the case internationally. It is for this reason that we have introduced the hattrick promotion and we believe these promotions will motivate our players.

“If the players are motivated, the supporters will be excited and such supporters are not violent,” he said.
