SOCCER - IT'S been on and off more times than Brad and Angelina's relationship but capital city side Mbabane Swallows have finally got their man in Leon Manyisa, who joined the ‘Beautiful Birds’ from Vovovo FC yesterday.
The Birds announced the deal - a one-year contract that will see the player at the Birds nest until June 2021. Swallows have been linked with the 21-year-old winger or playmaker for more than a year.
At some point, Manyisa visited Swallows during the off-season training and was on the verge of putting pen to paper to complete a move to the Mbabane-based side‚ but a deal seemed to have fallen through as the player eventually signed for hub giants Manzini Wanderers and featured for them in the EPTC Charity Cup.
This is the same player who broke Swallows’ supporters hearts during this season’s Charity Cup where he scored the lone goal to knock the Birds out of the one-day tournament.
Manyisa scored a ‘spectacular’ goal from the corner kick spot in this ‘spectacular’ tournament where they eventually lost in the finals.
Swallows even went on to announce the signing of the player at the beginning of the season but it was not to be as he also left Wanderers for Armenia where he played for FC Vans. Mbabane Swallows Marketing and Communications Manager Manqoba Mabuza confirmed the signing of Manyisa through a press statement yesterday.
“Eswatini's oldest surviving football club and one of the most reputable football brands on the African continent, Mbabane Swallows have signed Leon Manyisa from Vovovo FC on a one-year loan agreement.
“We confirm that everything is now in black and white; the player has signed and we hope that this puts to an end the speculations and talks that have been going on for some time now.”
Mabuza further assured their fans that they were still looking at strengthening their current squad and once all signings.
“Once everything has been concluded, the club’s president shall accordingly unveil all the players in a manner that is consistent with the Swallows culture of doing things.
For now, we can only say: welcome home Leon Manyisa.” Vovovo Director Sipho ‘Tsetla’ Bhembe also confirmed the deal. “It is true Leon Manyisa has been signed by Mbabane Swallows after a long confusion that was also not good for the player. I even wanted to keep him at Vovovo but, nevertheless, we are happy he made his choice and decided to join Swallows.
We wish him all the best.”
