A HEALTHY WORKER IS MORE PRODUCTIVE’

By Melusi Mlotsa | 2019-10-17

SOCCER – MINISTER of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga says a healthy worker is more productive than an unhealthy one.

Bulunga said this during the launch of the Eswatini Corporate League held at Royal Villas yesterday.

The seven corperate teams to take part in the inaugural tournament are The George Hotel, Standard Bank, Central Bank of Eswatini Montigny, Eswatini Revenue Authority, MTN and FINCORP.

The official sponsor of the league is Dixie’s International and it will kick off on Saturday at Manzini Club.

“We are officially in spring, a season which ushers us into new life and perhaps it is no coincidence then that the launch of this first-of-its kind eague happens at this time. Bulunga further said the launch of the Eswatini Corporate league, a League which promotes the well-being of Emaswati and all citizens employed by the different participating corporates through sport, could not have come at a better time as they had recently, taken one of the  flagship programmes, Shukuma Eswatini . He added that Eswatini Corporate League was not only aligned to national goals, but it also speaks directly to regional, continental and global goals.

He said a healthy worker was more productive than an unhealthy one. He, therefore, challenged all corporate heads to cultivate a fundamentally different mindset towards sport, physical activity and other wellness activities in the workplace.

“As a ministry, we also applaud the collaboration between governmental institutions and private sector organisations for this league. It is another one of government’s priorities to strengthen collaborations between herself and non-governmental institutions for a better and prosperous Eswatini. We therefore commend the ECL, once again, for providing the platform for this collaboration,” he said.

He  also said he had learnt with excitement that the league is in talks with SWIFT to find ways in which the competitions’ merchandise and even trophies are created locally by Emaswati artists.

“We sincerely hope that such plans will come into fruition because this will ensure that more Emaswati benefit through the existence of the league. Indeed, this is the time for Emaswati to support each other across all sectors of business. I now call upon more corporates to join this league and I wish all the eight teams the best of luck,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dixie’s International rep Zina Mdletshe said they were ploughing back to the community.

“It’s charity work and we are giving back to the community,” she said.
