SOCCER - THE Zambia national team has arrived in the country for the 2020 CHAN Qualifier match against Sihlangu Semnikati at the Mavuso Sports Centre on Sunday.
‘Chipolopolo’ landed in the Kingdom yesterday afternoon through King Mswati III International Airport and they were whisked to the Lugogo Sun where the team is booked.
The visitors will be arriving in two groups with the first crew jetting in last night with a group 21 people including eight players.
The rest of the team expected to arrive this evening.
The first group included head coach Aggrey Chiyangi, who dec-lined to co-mment until the pre-match meeting likely to be held tomorrow afternoon at the Mavuso Sports Centre.
Some of the players, who will arrive today, include the Zesco United pair of Adrian Chama and Clement Mwape.
The Zesco players remained behind because the team will be playing against Nakamala Leopard this afternoon in a league match.
Expecting
Zesco United recently faced local side Green Mamba in the CAF Champions League preliminary round tie last month where they won 3-0 on aggregate.
The squad’s Leader of Delegation Adrian Kashala said they were expecting the rest of the team to arrive in the country today.
“We are happy we have arrived safely in Eswatini for the important CHAN Qualifiers match.
Unable
“However, were unable to arrive with the full delegation due to some administrative issues.
“We are expecting the rest of the team to be here tomorrow evening (tonight). Otherwise, we have a delegation of 32 people for this trip including 22 players,” he said.
Kashala said they were here to work.
“I will not get into the technical aspect of the match but we are here to work.”
Fighting
The two nations are fighting for the place in the 2020 CHAN finals billed for Cameroon next year.
Entrance fee for the first leg match is E50 and the return leg will be played on October 19 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Sihlangu Semnikati are currently in camp at the Eswatini Football Association Technical Centre in preparations of the crucial assignment.
The Kostadin Papic boys will be hoping to win this tie in order to qualify for their first ever major international competition in the CHAN finals since the country gained its independence in 1968.
Zambia last recorded a 7-0 aggregate victory over Sihlangu Semnikati in 2017 during the 2018 qualifiers of the continent’s second national teams’ competition (CHAN).
