ESWATINI Gospel Music Talent Search held their first music workshop at the Global Village on Saturday morning.
The workshop included both contestants who are through to the next round and those that did not make it.
The participants that went through to the next round of the competition also had an opportunity to practice as groups.
Speaking to Organiser Thulani Mthethwa, he said the workshop was fruitful and was beneficial to everyone who had attended.
“We gave this workshop a theme, ‘Ärts and Culture 66’, as a way to recognise the support given by Arts and Culture in the whole project. We trained the contestants on exposure in the gospel music industry and we also helped them prepare for the business in this industry,” said Mthethwa. DT Masina who is a music lecturer at William Pitcher College and also an experienced artist, trained the contestants on vocals and prepared them for the coming eliminations.
“He helped them on curbing the good and bad habits that are usually done by artists should not copy. He also assisted them on how to preserve their voices before they go for performances,” said Mthethwa.
Artist Thabiso Themba coached the contestants on how to sing along with a band, as they would soon do later on in the competition. He then emphasised on the importance of communication between the contestant and the band and how to command their attention stage. EBIS’s Sinethemba Dlamini who is also a recording artist that won a similar competition in 2009, trained the contestants on how to present themselves to the public as a brand. She spoke on how to deal with the media and the pressure thereof. She gave emphasis on the importance of preserving their Christianity in the music industry. Contestants were then grouped and given an opportunity to practice as groups. On Saturday, they would be performing to stay in the competition. The public would, at a later stage in the competition, be allowed to come and support their friends and family members.
